Nuevas Sonrisas: Where we work

Santa Catarina Mita is in the department of Jutiapa, Guatemala, a rural area in the southeastern part of the country. It is a typical friendly, bustling Guatemalan town untouched by tourism.  But it’s also an economically poor area in a poor country and many of its children lack basic dental care.

Catocha (Santa Catarina Mita’s more common local name) sits at the foot of the extinct Suchitán volcano and the municipality includes a number of nearby communities that ring the volcano.  Over the years, we have become friends and partners with many locals who are committed to our goals of improving their child’s dental health.
